Emily Vala-Haynes

Assistant Professor of Community Health

Biography

Emily Vala-Haynes is an Assistant Professor of Community Health. Originally from Yamhill County, Oregon, Emily has experience working on reproductive health research projects in Mexico, Argentina, Peru, the Dominican Republic, and Mali. She is interested in reproductive health challenges--access to contraception, unintended pregnancy, maternal mortality, and intimate partner violence--faced by women in rural areas both internationally and here in the United States. At WOU she is excited to bring her international experiences into the classroom and help students engage with both local and global communities. Outside of work, Emily enjoys running, quilting, reading, and playing with her golden retriever.
