1.Actively involved in the design and syntheses of interesting biologically active nucleoside (oxygen, sulfur, selenium and carbocyclic) analogues for antiviral and anticancer applications. 2. Development of novel fluorinated carbocyclic nucleosides for antiviral applications (HBV/ HCV) – current work. 3.Design and first synthesis of novel DNA building blocks, 4′-selenothymidine and 4′-seleno-AZT as a potential antiviral agent from 2-deoxy-D-ribose (~15 steps, Org. Lett., 2010) 4.Improved Synthesis of a DNA-dependent Protein Kinase Inhibitor IC86621 (Arch. Pharm. Res., 2012) 5.Design and first synthesis of novel RNA purine and pyrimidine building blocks, (Chem. Eur. J., 2013, Eur. J. Med. Chem., 2014, Arch. Pharm. Res., 2015)

Research Interest

• Greener methodologies for halogen (iodine and fluorine) incorporation reactions; • Applications of supported reagents, heterogeneous catalysts, ionic liquids and unconventional methodologies like microwave assisted reaction or ultrasonic techniques in organic syntheses; • Development of novel nucleosides, nucleotides, prodrugs and carbohydrate chemistry; • Antiviral drug discovery (HIV, Hepatitis B & C, West Nile, Ebola, RSV); • Development of anti-cancer agents, adenosine receptor targets, heat shock protein targets, etc.; • Structure-based drug design and molecular modelling;
