Biography

Dr. Fuyuan Wang obtained his veterinary degree at Shandong Agricultural University in China. After graduation, he worked as a clinical veterinarian in Shandong Provincial Veterinary Medical Center for two years. Impressed by severe environmental pollution and its potential impact on health, he went to Tsinghua University to study toxic effects of soil contaminated with crude oil. In order to pursue advanced training, he came to the University of Michigan to study the reproductive toxicity of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) and obtained a master’s degree in toxicology. After 3 years of research fellow training in infectious diseases and oncology, he joined Dr. Sabita Roy’s laboratory at the University of Minnesota to study how opioids modulate gut homeostasis. His PhD thesis topic is “Temporal Modulation of Gut Microbiome and Metabolome by Morphine”. Dr. Wang is currently a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Angela Douglas at Cornell University studying immunomodulation of gut microbiome and metabolome in an animal model, the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. He is interested in interactions between animals and microbes, and their impact to animal and human health.
