Biography

Eileen Yam is an associate with the Population Council’s HIV and AIDS program in Washington, DC. She provides technical assistance, manages operations research, and evaluates programs in Africa and Asia that integrate sexual and reproductive health and HIV/AIDS services; prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV; and address the reproductive health needs of vulnerable populations.

Previously, she was a monitoring and evaluation manager for the Abt Associates Private Sector Partnerships-One (PSP-One) family planning project, as well as a research and evaluation specialist for the population and social transitions program at the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW), where she evaluated a work-based education program for female garment workers in Cambodia.

From 2004 to 2007, Yam was regional program associate for the Population Council’s Reproductive Health program in Mexico, where she conducted research on family planning, unsafe abortion, and HIV/STIs in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Yam received a PhD in population, family, and reproductive health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She also has an MPH in maternal and child health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Public Health, and a BA in anthropology from Yale University.
