Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome in the ICU: Diagnostic Challenges and Evolving Therapeutic Strategies

Abstract

Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality in intensive care units (ICUs) worldwide. Despite advances in critical care, early diagnosis and optimal management continue to pose significant challenges. This rapid communication highlights key diagnostic difficulties, including overlapping clinical features with other respiratory conditions, and reviews evolving therapeutic strategies aimed at improving patient outcomes[1]. Emphasis is placed on lung-protective ventilation, adjunctive therapies such as prone positioning, and emerging approaches including biomarker-guided treatment. The article underscores the importance of timely recognition and multidisciplinary care in managing ARDS effectively
