He is Doctor and Master in Organic Chemistry from the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Valdir Cechinel son now heads the Vice Dean of Postgraduate, Research, Extension and Culture University. Moreover, he is one researcher of the National Scientific and Technological Development Council (CNPq) and research professor of the Graduate Program (MD / PhD) in Pharmaceutical Sciences Univali.

He is also the international coordinator of the Ibero-American Network of Study and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity Regional Pharmaceutical Interest (Ribiofar) and Iberoamerricana Research Network on Cancer (Ribecancer), both supported by CYTED and CNPq. Acts as specialized journals Associate Editor (Pharmaceutical Biology, Journal of Medicinal Plants and The Scientific World Journal) and numerous professional journals advises, as Planta Medica, Natural Product Research, Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, Molecules, European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, New chemistry, among others. He is the author of several books, book chapters and scientific articles published in national and international professional journals, as well as eight deposits of domestic and international patents.
