Challenges Encountered by Care Providers in the Prevention of Hepatitis-b Virus During Clinical Practice. A Study Carried out in Health Facilities in Bamenda, North West Cameroon

Abstract

Hepatitis B is a worldwide health care problem, especially in developing countries with an estimated one third of the global population infected with the Hepatitis B virus (HBV) with 350-400 million people have lifelong chronic infection, and 0.5% spontaneously sero-converts annually from having the hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) to having the hepatitis B surface antibody (anti-HBs). Sub-Saharan Africa has the highest Hepatitis B virus infection rates, with health workers are at increased risk of contracting nosocomial HBV infection. Vaccination of health care workers plays a critical role in protecting them from sequelae of HBV. However, health workers vaccination remains a challenge for many workers.
