HealthPlus: Android Based HIV/AIDS Awareness and Prevention System

Abstract

Even though HIV/AIDS is incurable, but it can be prevented by proper education and personal care. Taking this with current technological advancements in mobile applications into consideration, this paper presents, a user interactive system, HealthPlus, which is developed as an Android application to educate about HIV/AIDS with quantified results about user‟s knowledge. This application was developed considering people belonging to developing countries where this topic is considered least significant because of several reasons like cultural taboos, social barriers and awkwardness, educational pitfalls, lack in mass communication and ignorance to health related issues. The widespread use of Android, via cheapest available tablets and phones like Aakash, is achieved in very short span. This paper shows that, the application is testified and overall improvement of 87.58% was achieved. This novel approach can be incorporated into applications of similar nature concentrating on social awareness of diseases or syndromes.
