Production of poly- β-hydroxybutyrate (phb) from Bacillus cereus

Abstract

 Industrial soil samples were screened for isolation of efficient biopolymer producing bacteria. Six isolates were obtained with different efficiencies of biopolymer production. A Gram positive, endospore producing bacterium produced highest biopolymer than other isolates. This bacterium is identified as Bacillus cereus by conventional morphological and biochemical studies.
