Biography

Dr Cristina Vassalle graduated Biological Sciences degree from University of Pisa, Italy, in 1990, where she also specialized in “Pharmacology”. She completed a PhD in “Molecular and Cellular Pathology” at the University of Perugia, Italy. Supported by research grants from Pisa University and Italian National Research Council, she subsequently held research positions. Research investigator of the Italian National Research Council at the Institute of Clinical Physiology, Pisa, from 2004 to 2008. Since 2008 she exerts her activity in the clinical and research centre “G. Monasterio Foundation CNR-Regione Toscana”, Pisa. Member of the Working Group of the European Society of Cardiology on “Pathogenesis of Atherosclerosis”. Member of the Working Group of the Italian Society of Cardiology on “Cardiovascular Disease in Women” . Her research interests mainly focus on cardiovascular biology, with particular emphasis placed on the study of biomarkers of cardiovascular risk. She has deep expertise in the field of Clinical and Research Laboratory Medicine, including cellular and molecular biology to evaluate levels of molecular and biochemical markers of diseases, and monitor levels of different vasoactive factors and inflammatory and oxidative stress parameters in biological samples. She has published >150 papers (original articles and abstracts) with a global Impact Factor >100.
