Parallel or Standalone Operation of Photovoltaic Cell with MPPT to DC Load

Abstract

The purpose of this project is to decide the operation of the panel whether standalone or parallel depending upon the illumination on it. The projects consist of a solar photovoltaic module, MPPT module and a DC load. Photovoltaic module is formed by connecting solar cells in series/parallel combination to obtain the maximum power output. Perturb and Observe Method (MPPT) is used to gate the buck – boost converter to obtain maximum peak power. Two strings Maximum Power Point Trackers are implemented to decide the load distribution and to accurately determine the input current of MPPTs, the PV-string configuration check is done online. The entire circuit was implemented using MATLAB software and results are verified. Index Terms—Direct current (DC), Maximum power point tracking (MPPT), Photovoltaic (PV) Perturb and Observe (P&O).
