University of São Paulo

Dr. Marques graduated in 2006 in Biological Science from the Universidade Metodista de Piracicaba. In undergraduate school, Dr. Marques focused on plant anatomy, mainly on understanding the plant cell/tissue response against viruses, bacteria and fungi. In 2008, he received his Master’s degree in Plant Biochemistry and Physiology from the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture (ESALQ), University of São Paulo (USP). In his Master’s, Dr. Marques conduced a histopathological study on lesions caused by Citrus leprosies virus in leaves, stems, and fruits. Dr. Marques obtained his PhD title in 2012 also in Plant Biochemistry and Physiology (ESALQ-USP) with the thesis named “Histopathology of postbloom fruit drop caused by Colletotrichum acutatum in citrus flowers”. Nowadays, Dr. Marques a Post-Doctoral Researcher at University of São Paulo, Brazil, and he is currently conducting part of his research at School of Plant, Soil and Environmental Science, Agricultural Center, Louisiana State University, USA. His work is focused on plant histopathology, ultrastructure, and histochemistry of sweet orange, sugarcane, and grapevine diseases. Dr. Marques has received financial support from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and his results have been awarded at national and international congresses. In 2014, Dr. Marques was awarded the Best Thesis Award in the Agricultural Field, from the University of São Paulo.
