Organohalogen Chemistry

Organohalogen chemistry is the branch of chemistry dealing with the study of the organic compounds containing halogen atoms as part of their molecules. Examples- Haloalkanes (alkyl halides), haloarenes (aryl halides), and acid halides are some important class of these compounds. The organo halogen compounds stumble on many purposes in day to day lifestyles and in industry. They are used as solvents in laboratory and in industries; as precursors to different natural molecules; as anesthetics (e.g. halothane); as refrigerants (like freons); etc. Organohalogens are extensively used in enterprise and society. Chloromethane is used as a solvent in rubber polymerization. Bromomethane is an vital fumigant; the associated halons (CBrClF 2 and CBrF 3 ) are higher fire extinguishants than Co2.
