Abstract

Antibiotic resistance has emerged as one of the most pressing global health challenges of the 21st century. It threatens the effective prevention and treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections, leading to prolonged illness, increased mortality, and rising healthcare costs. This mini review explores the mechanisms underlying antibiotic resistance, its global epidemiology, contributing factors, and the consequences for public health. It also examines current and emerging strategies to combat resistance, including antimicrobial stewardship, novel drug development, alternative therapies, and policy interventions.
