Peritoneal Carcinomatosis and Bilateral Ovarian Metastases from an Appendicular Ring Cell Carcinoma Over Carcinoid Cells Overall Survival More than 32 Months
Ovarian and appendicular tumors may have similar dissemination patterns, which is the reason of establishing a differential diagnosis between both tumors. Behavior of appendicular tumors differ depending on their histology (adenocarcinoid show more aggressiveness, tendency towards ovarian metastases) but just represent less than a 0.5% of gastrointestinal tumors. We review a case of an appendicular ring cell carcinoma with carcinoid cells to show the agressiveness and the benefit of Hypertermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) in a very rare disease.
