REVIEW ON THE DIAGNOSTIC ASSAY OF BOVINE TUBERCULOSIS IN CATTLE

Abstract

Bovine tuberculosis is an endemic disease of cattle in Ethiopia and is classified as a "List B" disease. This category includes all animal diseases that are considered important because of their socio-economic and public health impacts. Bovine tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium bovis, which belongs to Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Complex (MTBC) which infects man and animals. It is a chronic bacterial disease characterized by the progressive development of tubercles in any tissue or organ of the body. The rapid detection and identification of BTB is essential for good management and infection control. Zoonotic tuberculosis is one of the greatest threats to global health. It is a prevalent disease in most developing countries of the globe. The intradermal tuberculin skin test method is the most widely adopted method for the detection of Bovine tuberculosis. However, this method is not sufficiently sensitive or specific.
