Abstract

A art of, science of, branch of agriculture focused on cultivation crops and their ornamental purposes. In horticulture there are 4 main branches .Promology, Olericulture, Landscape horticulture and Floriculture are the branches of that. Promology is cultivation of fruits, Olericulture is cultivation of vegetables, Floriculture is cultivation of flowers for their ornamental purposes and Landscaping is the use of ornamental plants. The advantages and disadvantages involves the adopting sustainable practices and resource management in horticulture to maximize its benefits while minimizing its negative impacts. The importance of horticulture extends to various aspects of society and it is a valuable part of agriculture and human culture. High production per area, reduce soil erosion and contributes the national income are some of importance in Horticulture industry. The scope of horticulture is board and encompasses a wide range of opportunities and applications. Irrigation facility, transport and marketing facilities, development of new variety and availability of cheap manpower are some of scopes in horticulture.

I am Vinod Madhushanka. I am from Sri Lanka. Currently I am following a Advanced Diploma in Organic Farming conducted by WELLNESS ORGANIC FARMS, Srilanka.
