Bone marrow transplantation is a medical procedure designed to replace the contaminated or damaged bone marrow, tumor, or chemotherapy. This process involves transferring blood stem cells, which travel to the context where they produce new blood cells and stimulate new bone growth. The bone marrow also contains stem cells that are not yet known as hematopoietic stem cells, or HSCs. Many cells are already isolated and can make copies themselves. However, these stem cells are not the same, which means they have the capacity to multiply by dividing cells and remain stem cells or divide and mature into many different types of blood cells. HSCs found in the bone marrow will make new blood cells throughout your life.
