The category of chemicals which encompass steroid hormones that are naturally synthesized in adrenal cortex of vertebrates are referred as corticosteroids. Corticosteroids have numerous uses in medicine such as anti-inflammatory medicines, immunosuppressants, used in hormone replacement therapy.
